Transponder Printed Circuit Board

This RF Printed Circuit Board from RT duroid 5880 Rogers and FR4 as base material is part of a special transponder circuit which was developed at Collaborative Research Centre 653 at university of Hannover. The transponders measurements are 9 x 26 mm, small like a paper clip. It consists of a double layer PTFE substrate with antenna structrures for RF signals. Upon an additional layer for digital data processing is added upon the PTFE PCB, isolated by FR4. Due to different sizes of FR4 and PTFE material, the antenna can send signals with low loss.

The objective of this subproject is to enable a metallic component to communicate with its environment. For this purpose, electromagnetic waves in the gigahertz range are enabled to penetrate into the component through a circular waveguide. A circuit that is also integrated in the component is coupled to the waveguide and allows the gentelligent component to communicate, store and process data. Within Collaborative Research Centre 653 components with novel properties as well as concepts, methods and techniques for their manufacturing and utilization in production engineering will be developed. This interdisciplinary CRC’s long-term objective is the integration of components with their corresponding information for reproduction as well as stress information from their lifecycle.
